Keep eKasi flowing
The Sanlam Kas’lam initiative is one of the ways Sanlam is actively responding to the challenges facing South Africa today. It reflects their commitment to uplifting communities and driving growth and development — one township at a time.

As a long-term programme, Kas’lam focuses on understanding the operational challenges informal traders face and identifying opportunities to protect and grow their wealth, ultimately empowering them to live with confidence.
Campaign Launch
Amid the water-shedding crisis affecting parts of Johannesburg in 2024, Sanlam—through its Kas’lam initiative—launched its first campaign phase by installing two water-storage tanks at Rebongwe Primary School in Meadowlands, Soweto. As a bold visual thread, we created illustrated murals across local communities and shops, helping the message reach far beyond the school grounds.

The campaign also encouraged communities to continue buying eKasi, reinforcing the vital role local businesses play in sustaining township economies.

The initiative will expand to more township schools across the province, including Mamelodi in Pretoria. This expansion is expected to aid thousands more learners to access reliable water supplies, ensuring uninterrupted education.

In addition to installing the tanks, we developed an illustrative key visual inspired by the vibrant township landscapes of Mzansi.

The textures and abstract shapes used in the illustration alluded to the richness of the Kasi.
The roughness and the distinct look of it is something we wanted to spotlight by showcasing its unique landscapes and ultimately represent Kasi pride.
